IT WAS:
Date:
April 23, 2005
Day:
Saturday
Time:
8:00 A. M.
Place:
Sachse High School,
Sachse Texas
What:
9th Annual Gray Eagle Open Karate Tournament
Why:
To find out WHO is good enough to 'Win The Eagle'
WHAT HAPPENED????
If you missed this year's
tournament... SHAME ON YOU! You missed one of the best
of the year (of course)... But you also missed one of the best
GRAY EAGLE tournaments! Sifu Tony Jordan moved this
years tournament to Sachse High School in Sachse Texas because
of the soaring cost of promoting in Fair Park. However,
even though he saved a lot of money by promoting in the High
School, this was definitely one of his best tournament ever.
With 2 full size gymnasiums and 14 rings to accommodate the
competitors, there was definitely enough room. And the
money he saved on the building was re-invested in the
trophies.... WOW.... If you were lucky enough to win one of
these... you will be talking and showing it off for years to
come! These beautiful and HEAVY eagles are the envy of
all competitors. Ask someone that won one to show
you.... You will probably have to go see it at their home or
office though because they are too heavy to carry around!.
We hope to have photos on line soon... many competitors were
taking pictures of just the trophies.... they were so
beautiful....
AND.... if you got a Gray Eagle
T-shirt this year... don't commit a crime at night while
wearing one.... they GLOW IN THE DARK!!! The shirt alone
is beautiful... but when you turn out the lights....
AWESOME... the only word to describe it! If you didn't
get one... I'm sure you will see them on the circuit... but we
were sold out so you'll just have to look at OTHER people
wearing them!
Thanks to the tournament coordinators,
Mr. Dewey Sutton and Mr. David Grago, the tournament ran
smoothly and better than ever before. All divisions were
completed by 3:30 PM.... EVEN THE BLACK BELTS! With a
tournament this size to finish before 5pm is amazing.
When the competitors walked in the door, everything was
arranged so they could easily find their rings and know were to
be at all times. Thanks to the Black Belt Judges the competitors
didn't have to wait as long as normal either.
I want to take this opportunity to thank
all the Black Belts that helped with the tournament.
Without you... this would have been just another low quality
tournament. But because of your hard work, competitors
were treated to a very well run and organized tournament.
I apologize for the concessions running out of food.
This was their first year and they did not expect the crowd
that the Gray Eagle brings. They WILL be better
prepared next year!
After seeing the trophies for this year,
many Adult Black Belts went back and registered for
competition instead of just watching. But the EAGLES
weren't easy to win either. Competition was so strong
that one little mistake was all it took to take them
completely out of the competition. Congratulations to
